Your name and your farm:

Steve and Becky Camp

C Farms

Location of your farm:

Whitman County

Lacrosse, Washington

History of your farm:

Steve is 5th generation of farmers here. We strive to create an environment that not only financially sustains us, but meets our social, emotional, spiritual, family and community needs also. Not only do we direct seed to preserve the farm, but we also grow and process our own biofuel.

We give back to our community through membership in Whitman County Posse, Palouse Empire Fair Foundation and other various local efforts.

Why do you think direct seeding is important to the future of agriculture?

After watching topsoil run down the hills for too many years, Steve decided, "that's enough". We transitioned to 100% direct seeding in 1994 and haven't looked back. Improving the soil health for the long-term has been our priority.

Why are you involved with Shepherd’s Grain?

Shepherd's Grain has given us an avenue to discuss and learn best practices, as well as value for our efforts.

Why do you think it is important to develop relationships between the grower and Shepherd’s Grain customers?

Direct relations with our end-users are motivational. We hear that our efforts make a difference, and they have an opportunity to connect directly to their food source.
